Are 28-Day Recharge Plans Finally Ending? 30-Day Plans Coming Soon!
Let’s Talk About a Problem Every Mobile User Faces
For a long time, most of us have been using mobile recharge plans that last 28 days instead of 30 days. It may look like a small difference, but over time, it affects all users.
Because of this system, we end up doing 13 recharges in a year instead of 12, which means extra spending without even realizing it.
Now, this issue has become serious enough that even the government is stepping in.
❓ Why Is This Issue Trending Now?
Recently, Raghav Chadha raised this concern in the Rajya Sabha. He questioned:
- If a month has 30 days, why are plans only for 28 days?
- Why should users pay for an extra recharge every year?
He also suggested something interesting:
- If users don’t use their full daily data (like 1.5 GB), the unused data should be carried forward or given as a benefit later.
📵 Another Concern: Unnecessary Data Plans
Not everyone uses the internet—especially keypad phone users. Still, they are forced to pay for data in recharge plans.
This raises a valid question:
👉 Why pay for something you don’t even use?
He also pointed out:
- Why do incoming calls and SMS stop immediately after recharge expires?
- Shouldn’t basic services continue for some time (like up to 1 year)?
🏛️ What Is the Government Saying?
The issue has caught attention at the highest level.
- Jyotiraditya Scindia has asked telecom companies to focus on 30-day recharge plans.
- Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has already recommended offering monthly validity plans.
However, telecom companies still have the freedom to decide pricing and terms.
🔄 Will 28-Day Plans Be Replaced?
There is a strong chance that 30-day recharge plans may soon become standard if companies follow these recommendations.
👉 Possible benefits for users:
- Only 12 recharges per year (not 13)
- Better value for money
- More flexibility in plans
- Possible data carry-forward options
💬 What Do You Think?
- Should 28-day plans be completely removed?
- Do you support data carry-forward?
- Should incoming calls remain active even without recharge?
